Wairau Hospital
A division of Nelson Marlborough District Health Board, Wairau Hospital provides 24-hour
acute secondary services, routine medical and surgical services and essential core
community services. In addition, a private surgical ward shares some of Wairau Hospital's
facilities and a number of Blenheim's private specialists consulting rooms are based at
the site.
Based in Blenheim,
Wairau Hospital's obstetrics service operates from a purpose built unit with facilities
for 10 inpatients at one time. The hospital intends enlarging the area so that all
obstetric services operate from one place and integrate with the gynaecology and
outpatient clinics, creating a fully integrated women's service closely aligned to the
paediatric area.
The elderly assessment, treatment and rehabilitation service integrates
eleven inpatient beds and outpatient consulting rooms in the same dedicated facility. A
component of this service is provided in the patient's home environment.
